KBRN, Jakarta: Sangiran, located in the regencies of Sragen and Karanganyar, Central Java, is home to one of the world's most significant archaeological sites.
The Sangiran Early Man Site, as it is officially known, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. It is recognized for its rich collection of early human fossils and artifacts.
The Sangiran Museum, divided into five clusters, offers visitors a comprehensive look into the region's prehistoric past. Each cluster focuses on a specific aspect of the site's history and significance.
Krikilan Cluster: The Krikilan Cluster is the main information center and provides a comprehensive overview of the Sangiran site. It showcases a wide range of fossils and artifacts.
Dayu Cluster: This cluster focuses on human evolution, environment, and culture over 1.2 to 0.6 million years. The oldest artifacts, dating back 1.2 million years, were discovered here.
Ngebung Cluster: The Ngebung Cluster highlights the site's history of discoveries and research. Due to the abundance of stone tools, this area is known as "The Sangiran Flake Industry."
Bukuran Cluster: This cluster, which focuses on human evolution, features a "visible storage" area, allowing visitors to see the fossil collection firsthand.
Manyarejo Cluster: This cluster pays tribute to the researchers who have significantly contributed to our understanding of the Sangiran site.
Beyond the rich collection of fossils and artifacts, the Sangiran Museum also offers interactive exhibits and educational programs.
Visitors can learn about fossilization, the evolution of human species, and the importance of preserving our prehistoric heritage.
In recent years, the Sangiran Museum has seen a steady increase in visitors, with over 15,949 people visiting in 2024 alone.
The site's five clusters offer a unique and immersive experience for visitors of all ages, making it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in human history and archaeology.
Visitors can explore the Sangiran Early Man Site from Tuesday to Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time.
Admission fees vary depending on the cluster. The Krikilan, Ngebung, and Bukuran clusters charge IDR 15,000 for domestic visitors and IDR 30,000 for foreign visitors.
The Manyarejo cluster has an entrance fee of IDR 5,000 for domestic and IDR 20,000 for foreign visitors, while the Dayu cluster offers the most affordable option at IDR 5,000 per person. ***
