RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Arif Satria, emphasized that the success of the national energy transition to clean energy, particularly hydrogen, requires strong collaboration among stakeholders. This collaboration must be built within an innovation ecosystem supported by research aligned with industry needs.
In a press release received by RRI VOI on July 29, 2026, Arif described the energy transition as both a challenge and an opportunity for Indonesia to demonstrate its ability to deliver environmentally friendly energy innovation and technology. He emphasized that sustainability issues are now as important as the development of AI and digital technology, which are transforming human life.
He appreciated the holding of the 2026 Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit and Expo (GHES) in Jakarta, as a result of collaboration between various parties, including BRIN, energy industry players, state-owned enterprises, associations, and other strategic partners. According to him, this collaboration reflects the formation of a stronger national hydrogen ecosystem, not just an international forum.
Arif affirmed that the development of a hydrogen ecosystem cannot be carried out by a single institution, requiring synergy between the government, research institutions, industry, academia, and technology users. He also emphasized the strategic role of the Energy and Manufacturing Research Organization of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in strengthening the research component as the main foundation of the national hydrogen ecosystem.
He explained that BRIN's research must be needs-based so that the results can be more easily downstreamed and meet the needs of partners, both energy companies and technology users. Furthermore, BRIN continues to strengthen its technology foresight capabilities so that Indonesia can accurately determine the direction of technology investment between 2035 and 2040.
Through the GHES 2026, BRIN hopes that collaboration in research and innovation in the hydrogen sector will strengthen going forward. These efforts are expected to accelerate the realization of a resilient and competitive national hydrogen ecosystem and support the energy transition target towards a sustainable Indonesia.
