RRI.CO.ID, Shanghai – Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, visited the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2026 exhibition in Shanghai, China, on Sunday, July 19, 2026. According to a ministry press release, he was accompanied by Indonesia’s Ambassador to China and Mongolia, Djauhari Oratmangun, Vice Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, Deputy for Trade and Digital Economy, Ali Murtopo Simbolon, and the Indonesian Consul General in Shanghai, Berlianto Situngkir.

The Indonesian delegation toured the exhibition and held direct discussions on the latest technological developments with several Chinese technology companies, including Unitree Robotics, Deep Robotics, and CICT-FiberHome. While visiting the Unitree Robotics booth, Airlangga witnessed demonstrations of humanoid and quadruped (four-legged) robots. These robots are already used commercially for industrial inspections, power substation patrols, and AI research at various universities around the world.

To date, Unitree has shipped more than 50,000 quadruped robots globally and holds approximately 70% of the global market share. Highlighting the immense potential of this innovation, intelligent robotics can serve as a practical solution to improve operational efficiency and workplace safety in hazardous environments, such as the mining, oil and gas, and national power sectors.

Coordinating Minister Airlangga also visited Deep Robotics, a technology company specializing in quadruped robots for industrial inspections, emergency response, and high-risk operations. The delegation noted that this technology aligns well with Indonesia’s needs, both for operations in the energy and mining sectors and for strengthening the nation’s disaster response capabilities.

Deep Robotics’ technology could provide a significant breakthrough in supporting operations in remote and hard-to-reach areas. Furthermore, this innovation opens opportunities for system integration partnerships with local companies. This is part of collective efforts to build the independence and competitiveness of the national industry.

The visit concluded with a tour of the China Information and Communication Technologies (CICT) Group and its subsidiary, FiberHome. As a global Chinese state-owned enterprise in information and communication technology infrastructure, CICT-FiberHome has a long track record in Indonesia, particularly in providing telecommunications equipment and fiber-optic networks. Moving forward, there is scope for broader investment collaboration in Indonesia to develop data centers and next-generation communications infrastructure.

In line with Indonesia’s commitment to becoming a Founding State of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), this visit and the meetings with leading technology companies represent concrete steps forward. These efforts aim to realize that commitment through investment partnerships and technology transfers to develop Indonesia’s industries and boost the national economy.
