RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A team from the Faculty of Industrial Technology at Sultan Agung Islamic University (Unissula) in Semarang has developed its own electric vehicle prototype. The light green vehicle is named MOLISA (University Student-Built Electric Vehicle).

At first glance, MOLISA resembles a six-seater buggy. However, one of the team members, Naufal Afif Fathi, explained that the vehicle is equipped with solar panels that provide an additional source of power.

"The vehicle is fitted with solar panels on the roof, which serve as an additional source of energy," Naufal said, as quoted by the Indonesian Vice Presidential Secretariat on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

MOLISA recently received recognition from Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who invited the team to the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday and personally inspected the prototype.

"He (Gibran) greatly appreciated the work of our students, which we named MOLISA," Muhammad Qomaruddin, Dean of Unissula's Faculty of Industrial Technology, said after the meeting.

Qomaruddin said the development of MOLISA was the result of interdisciplinary collaboration between faculty members and students. He added that the project reflects the university's commitment to preparing skilled human capital to support the growth of Indonesia's electric vehicle industry.

"The students accompanying us today are those who have been involved in collaborative research projects with our lecturers," he said.

During the visit, the vice president also showcased several domestically developed vehicles, including the Maung tactical vehicle by Pindad. He encouraged the MOLISA team to continue improving their innovation and further develop locally made electric vehicles capable of competing in the market, including by broadening their knowledge through visits to established industrial facilities.

"He encouraged our students to keep innovating and continue improving what we have created," he said.

In addition, he added that Gibran also urged the students to continue advancing environmentally friendly technologies through electric vehicles as part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia's green energy ecosystem. As a gesture of appreciation, the vice president signed the car body.

"This is a truly valuable opportunity and a great honor for us," Naufal said after the meeting.
