RRI.CO.ID, Surabaya - Indonesia’s Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Techhnology (ITS) has once again brought pride to the nation, with its IRIS robotics team securing third place in the Middle Size League (MSL) at RoboCup 2026.
The prestigious international robotics competition was held in Songdo, South Korea, over seven days and concluded on July 6. Team leader Dwi Ananda Akbar explained that the MSL category tests the ability of medium-sized autonomous wheeled robots to play soccer.
Competing against strong teams from the Netherlands, France, and Japan, IRIS deployed defensive strategies while seeking scoring opportunities in both halves.
“Our approach was shaped by observations from past competitions and qualifying rounds,” said Dwi Ananda Akbar, known as Nanda, as quoted on ITS' official website on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Months of preparation went into the achievement, involving extensive research, trials, and continuous system improvements. Nanda expressed gratitude to the 24 team members and three faculty advisors whose dedication made the success possible.
He emphasized that the accomplishment reflects the quality of ITS students’ research and innovation, strengthening Indonesia’s reputation in robotics and artificial intelligence.
The achievement also aligns with ITS’s commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
“We are thankful to everyone who supported us in bringing ITS and Indonesia to the global stage,” Nanda said.
