RRI.CO.ID, Austria - Strengthening human resource capacity is key to developing reliable and globally competitive nuclear analytical technology. To support this, researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) participated in international training on X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) techniques organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency in Seibersdorf, Austria.

According to a press release received by RRI VOI from BRIN on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, this training was attended by technicians and researchers from various IAEA member countries working in the fields of material characterization, quality control, and XRF applications for the environment and industry. The two-week training aimed to equip participants with theoretical knowledge and practical skills to reliably conduct XRF-based analysis in the laboratory.

NSIL facilities are equipped with various XRF instruments and comprehensive sample preparation facilities. These include Energy-Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence (EDXRF), which has high energy resolution for analyzing complex multi-element systems; Total X-Ray Fluorescence (TXRF), which is highly sensitive for detecting trace elements down to the ppm level; and micro-XRF, which can map element distribution in heterogeneous samples with a spatial resolution of up to 20 micrometers.

Feni Fernita, a researcher from the National Research and Innovation Agency from the Nuclear Beam Analysis Technology Research Center, stated that the training provided invaluable experience in improving competency in XRF-based nuclear analytical methods.

"This training is also very important for our research group, Nuclear Analytical Methods under the Nuclear Beam Analysis Technology Research Center," she said.

Feni added that the opportunity to discuss directly with global XRF experts was a crucial added value in developing research capacity. "Furthermore, I also had the opportunity to exchange experiences with participants from various countries, such as Nigeria, Argentina, Guatemala, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Turkey, and this interaction opens up opportunities for future international collaboration," she said.

The participation of BRIN researchers in this international training is part of BRIN's ongoing efforts to strengthen human resource competencies, improve laboratory capabilities, and expand international collaboration networks to support the development of nuclear science and technology in Indonesia.
