RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Vice Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, emphasized that the development of a national compute cluster is key to enhancing Indonesia's competitiveness in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. According to him, Indonesia must go beyond the role of technology users by strengthening computing infrastructure and digital talent.

"At least there are two very important strategies. The first is to strengthen our position in AI infrastructure development. The second is to strengthen our position in compute clusters, including enhancing Indonesian digital talent to compete with global challenges," Nezar said in Jakarta, Monday, July 6, 2026.

He explained that the need for compute clusters is becoming increasingly urgent because modern AI technology relies on large-scale computing capacity. This infrastructure serves as the foundation for the development of AI models, research, innovation, and the emergence of various AI-based solutions developed domestically.

Nezar said strengthening computational capacity must go hand in hand with the development of a national AI ecosystem. Thus, Indonesia will not only become a market for foreign technology but will also be able to play a significant role as one of the key players in the global AI industry.

"We should not just be users, but how we can also become significant players who help determine the direction of AI technology adoption in Indonesia," he said.

Furthermore, the Vice Minister emphasized that the success of AI development is not only determined by the amount of investment but also by the ability to build an integrated ecosystem thru collaboration between the government, industry, academia, state-owned enterprises, communities, and national innovators.

He said that AI development has become one of the priorities in the Vision Indonesia Digital 2045. The development of this technology is directed toward achieving three main goals, namely providing inclusive technology, empowering the national ecosystem, and strengthening Indonesia's digital sovereignty.
