RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Indonesia's Vice Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, affirmed the importance of adopting artificial intelligence (AI) technology to optimize the agricultural sector in Indonesia. "Adopting the latest technology, in this case artificial intelligence, is critical and strategic for supporting agricultural growth in Indonesia and maintaining its sustainability," Vice Minister Nezar said.

In a press statement received by RRI VOI from the Ministry of Communication and Digital on Sunday, April 12, 2026, Nezar Patria in Yogyakarta stated that AI has extensive benefits for farmers. He said this technology can detect pests and plant diseases, maximize land production, and even automate crop maintenance.

Furthermore, he stated that AI can map distribution routes and conduct predictive analysis regarding future food availability. He acknowledged that optimal AI implementation requires a strong telecommunications network foundation.

He also noted that AI operates based on data exchange, which is highly dependent on quality internet access. "AI works with data. And data is transferred through telecommunications networks. Therefore, telecommunications infrastructure is a prerequisite at the elementary, fundamental level," Nezar explained.

To support this innovation, the government continues to accelerate the development and equitable distribution of telecommunications infrastructure, even to remote areas. Special attention is being given to the Frontier (Terdepan), Outermost (Terluar), and Disadvantaged (Tertinggal) or 3T regions to ensure equal internet access.

Besides, Vice Minister Nezar, hopes that equitable connectivity can be utilized for the development of the digital economy in the regions, the growth of MSMEs, and the exchange of information and skills within the community.

He stated that the government will also continue to collaborate with universities to strengthen research and produce AI innovations created by the nation's youth.
