RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government underscored that the high rate of artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in Indonesia must be meant as increased national productivity, economic growth, and strengthened national competitiveness.

Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, stated that the AI adoption rate in Indonesia has reached 92 percent. However, its use for productive activities and the creation of added economic value still needs to be expanded.

"Even with 92 percent AI adoption, the use of AI for productivity in Indonesia is still minimal. This is why today we are happy to see the birth of new startups," the Minister said at the graduation ceremony of the Google for Startups Accelerator program at the Garuda Spark Innovation Hub in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

This program is a global government-to-government collaboration to accelerate the learning process and improve the skills of Indonesia's digital talent.

The Google Accelerator has graduated 63 startups, consisting of 43 early-stage startups and 20 Series A startups, in the first year since its launch last year through a collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Digital and Google Indonesia.

"Sixty-three national startups that have graduated from this program is no small number. In fact, it is reported that there are 2,500 active startups in Indonesia that have directly contributed to the value of the digital economy. This demonstrates that startups are the driving force of the national digital economy," Meutya conveyed.

Furthermore, she encouraged startup players to view Indonesia as one of the largest digital markets in the Asia Pacific region. Of the 278 million population, approximately 80.66 percent, or more than 230 million people, are connected to the internet.

The value of the national digital economy has exceeded USD 80 billion and is projected to exceed USD 130 billion by 2025.

"This growth is not natural. It is driven by technological innovation, the transformation of traditional sectors, and most importantly, Indonesia's digital human resources, which are driving high economic growth and the largest in Southeast Asia," she stated.

Meutya encouraged Indonesian digital talents to continue innovating, so that Indonesia becomes not just a market, but a birthplace for the latest innovations in technology, particularly AI.
