Indonesia Semiconductor Summit 2026 Drives Strategic Technological Independence

RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia fully supports the organization of the Indonesia Semiconductor Summit (ISS) 2026 by the Indonesia Chip Design Collaborative Center (ICDeC) at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Innovation Park, Bandung, 29-30 January 2026. As the first international forum in Indonesia in the field of semiconductors, ISS 2026 is expected to foster collaboration among Indonesian semiconductor stakeholders to accelerate the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in the country.
In the opening session, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arif Havas Oegroseno, affirmed that Indonesia's economic diplomacy in the semiconductor sector will focus on forming international partnerships. "Indonesia needs to build strategic alliances with global and regional partners to accelerate the development of the national semiconductor industry," Vice Minister Havas stated.
He believes the collaboration could be crucial in facilitating technology transfer and securing Indonesia's position on the global technology map.
On the same occasion, the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang, presented the significant opportunities for the development of Indonesia's semiconductor industry. With the highest Manufacturing Value Added (MVA) ranking in ASEAN, Indonesia possesses significant domestic potential, particularly in the mobile phone and electric vehicle (EV) sectors.
The Minister of Industry also emphasized the government's strategy to encourage the development of silica smelter infrastructure to ensure raw material independence and strengthen Indonesia's position in the global value chain.
The importance of collaboration was also conveyed by the Rector of ITB, Prof. Tatacipta Dirgantara, and the Chairman of the Indonesia Chip Design Collaborative Center ICDeC, Trio Adiono, who emphasized the importance of synergy between academics and industry in creating technological innovations that have a national impact.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Research and Development for Science and Technology at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Fauzan Adziman, presented the national strategy for preparing Semiconductor Human Resources (HR), which focuses on sustainable research and creating expert talent in the field of chip design.
ISS 2026 brings together semiconductor stakeholders from various sectors, including government, private industry, and academia. Readers at ISS 2026 also came from both domestic and international locations, including Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, Malaysia, Japan, and representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
