KBRN, Bandung: The Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), through its Electronics and Informatics Research Organization (OREI), is initiating an international research partnership with Université Paris-Saclay, one of France’s leading academic institutions.
The collaboration aims to advance science and innovation in both countries through joint research, scientist exchange programs, and the development of shared research centers.
A delegation from Université Paris-Saclay visited the Samaun Samadikun Science and Technology Area (KST) in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. The visit marked a significant first step toward formalizing cooperation between BRIN and the globally ranked university.
Budi Prawara, Head of OREI BRIN, welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in strengthening Indonesia’s research ecosystem and expanding global research networks.
“Partnering with Université Paris-Saclay is a strategic move to promote joint research, researcher exchange, and the development of technologies that benefit both nations,” Budi stated, as quoted on BRIN's official website.
He noted that the potential areas of collaboration include Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as virtual screening and natural compound-based drug discovery, machine learning, cybersecurity, quantum machine learning, quantum cryptography, and HPC AI for Good.
Additional opportunities lie in advanced imaging equipment, bioinformatics, biosensors, advanced telecommunication systems, autonomous systems, and high-performance computing (HPC). The partnership also encompasses researcher mobility programs, including visiting professors, guest researchers, and training for master’s and doctoral students.
Rachid Bennacer, Vice President for Research at Université Paris-Saclay, expressed the university’s commitment to building sustainable global partnerships with research institutions in countries with strong potential in science and technology.
“We see BRIN as a strategic partner to expand research and innovation collaboration. Indonesia has many talented young researchers, and we want to create more opportunities for them,” Bennacer said.
Université Paris-Saclay currently ranks 13th globally in the 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) and is recognized as the top university in France. It serves over 50,000 students and employs 8,100 researchers and faculty members across 220 laboratories and 500 experimental platforms.
The visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen scientific ties between France and Indonesia, particularly in higher education, research, and innovation. In addition to discussions, the delegation toured several OREI BRIN laboratories to observe current research activities firsthand. ***
