RRI.CO.ID, Jakarya - Bali’s Agung Prana Reef Conservation Area in Birock, Buleleng, became the stage for the CMAS World Underwater Championship 2026, where 78 divers from around the world competed on Tuesday, September 6.

The tournament featured seven photography categories — fish, theme, close‑up, wide angle (with and without diver/model), creative, and smart device — along with three video categories: creative movie, theme movie, and 60‑second video.

The organizer stressed the event was more than a contest.

“This World Championship is not just about underwater photo and video competitions. Participants will also experience Bali’s cultural performances, local wisdom, and take part in coral reef restoration and rehabilitation,” Chairman of the Indonesian Underwater Sport Association (POSSI) Police Com. Gen. Makhruzi Rahman said in a statement, as quoted by Antara.

Makhruzi expressed hope the championship would boost tourism in Pemuteran Village, drawing more visitors in the future. He added that beyond diving attractions, the event could spur growth in the local economy, tourism industry, and small businesses.

By combining world‑class competition with cultural immersion and conservation, the championship highlighted Bali not only as a premier dive destination but also as a hub for sustainable tourism and community development. ***
