RRI.CO.ID, Nagoya - Indonesia secured its third gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after men’s doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin defeated China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang in the final. Leo/Daniel secured the victory after a three-game match, winning 18-21, 21-13, and 21-18.
Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir praised Leo and Daniel for their performance, describing the victory as an important moment for Indonesia’s delegation in its pursuit of the target of four gold medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
“Alhamdulillah, this is Indonesia’s third gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair, Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin, have won the gold medal for the country after defeating the Chinese pair in the final,” Erick said.
The gold medal also ended Indonesia’s wait to reclaim the men’s doubles title at the Asian Games, after Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon last won the event at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
“Our target was one gold medal, but today, badminton has delivered two gold medals. This is all thanks to the commitment and hard work of the athletes, coaches, officials, federation administrators, and the entire team that seriously prepared the delegation for the Asian Games,” Erick said.
In addition to badminton, Erick praised the weightlifting team for achieving its target of one gold medal. He also called on Indonesian athletes still competing to remain focused and give their best.
“We are still waiting for the efforts of athletes from other sports that also have the potential to win gold medals. Therefore, I hope all athletes who are still competing will remain focused, maintain their spirit, and give their best,” he explained
With Leo and Daniel’s gold medal, Indonesia now has three gold medals and needs one more to reach its target of four gold medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
