Rahmat Erwin’s Gold Boosts Indonesia’s Four-Gold Target at Asian Games

RRI.CO.ID, Nagoya - Vice Minister of Youth and Sports, Taufik Hidayat, expressed his optimism that Indonesia’s contingent can meet its target of winning four gold medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. His optimism comes after weightlifter, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah secured Indonesia’s second gold medal while also breaking two world records.

“Alhamdulillah, Rahmat Erwin won the gold medal,” Taufik said after watching the competition at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center, Japan, Saturday, September 26, 2026.

He Erwin won the gold medal in the men’s 75-kilogram weightlifting event. The 25-year-old lifter recorded a 160-kilogram lift in the snatch and 206 kilograms in the clean and jerk, for a total lift of 365 kilograms.

His achievement was made even more impressive as he broke two world records, in the total lift and the clean and jerk.

Taufik said Indonesia still has opportunities to add more gold medals, as several sports have yet to complete their competitions. He remains optimistic that Indonesia can continue pursuing its four-gold target through the end of the Games.

“Yes, I’m optimistic that we can win more gold medals and reach the target. There are still sports that have yet to compete,” he said..

Regarding the development and support strategy for athletes who are still competing, Taufik stressed the importance of maintaining their mental condition and focus. He said athletes should receive full support without being placed under excessive motivational pressure.

“They are professional athletes and already know what they need to do. Our task is to give them full support and look after them,” The Vice Minister expressed.
