RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - More international competitions could help Indonesian hurdler Dina Aulia improve her performance and measure her ability against athletes from other countries, she said after competing at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Dina made the call after finishing fifth in the women’s 100-meter hurdles final at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, Nagoya, on Sunday, September 27, 2026. "I want to ask the government to hold more competitions, please. I only had one international competition, and that was the Philippine Open," she said on Sunday, September 27, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The 2026 Asian Games marked Dina’s second appearance at the continental multi-sport event after her debut at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. Dina said the opportunity to compete internationally remained insufficient, particularly as she needs more races to match the performance of hurdlers at the Asian and international levels.
The South Kalimantan-born athlete has so far relied mainly on local and national competitions to develop her skills. Her most recent competitions before the Asian Games included the Jateng Open and Jatim Open.
"The last ones were local competitions, Jateng Open and Jatim Open. So, it was not enough. When I competed in Hangzhou, I was really nervous. Now I feel more relaxed," she said.
Dina said her experience at the Hangzhou Asian Games was more difficult because she suffered an injury and was unable to finish the final.
At the 20th edition of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Dina felt more relaxed despite finishing behind her competitors in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Japan’s Fukube Mako won the event, followed by compatriot Nakajima Hitomi, while China’s Wu Yanni finished third. ***
