RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Sean Gelael strengthened Indonesia’s presence in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) after Team WRT 32 won the 6 Hours of Fuji in Japan on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The victory adds an important international result for Indonesian motorsport at one of endurance racing’s major events.
"I am very happy. We have worked hard throughout this year, when the races have not always gone our way," Sean said in an official statement on Sunday, September 27, as quoted by Antara.
Team WRT 32 consists of Sean Gelael, Darren Leung, and Augusto Farfus. The team began the race strongly through its first driver, Darren Leung, who avoided a multiple-car crash shortly after the start and moved up to eighth position. The British driver continued to gain positions, eventually reaching third and overtaking the car ahead.
Sean then took over from Leung and briefly moved into the lead. Farfus subsequently took over the wheel from Sean. Repeated Safety Car (SC) periods did not always work in WRT 32's favor, but the Brazilian driver used his two decades of experience as a BMW racer to overcome the challenges.
The victory adds to Sean Gelael's experience on the international endurance racing stage and strengthens Indonesia's representation in the FIA WEC. The next FIA WEC race will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain on October 18. ***
