RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia secured its first esports medal at the 2026 Asian Games after the Pokémon Unite team won silver at Aichi Sky Expo, Japan, on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The result gives Indonesia an early milestone as esports becomes part of the country’s Asian Games medal campaign.
Indonesia put up a strong fight against hosts Japan in the final, played in a best-of-five (BO5) format.
The Indonesian team, consisting of Deni Ardiyanto, Marcello Hillers, Muhammad Haikal Irawan, Judha Raja Panggabean and Novrizal Diananta, took the opening game to lead 1-0, as quoted on Youth and Sports Ministry official website.
Japan responded in front of its home supporters, playing more aggressively and winning the next three games. Indonesia eventually lost the final 1-3, earning the silver medal, while Japan claimed gold.
Although Indonesia did not win the gold medal, the Pokémon Unite team's achievement marks an important milestone for the country's esports development at the Asian Games.
