RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s badminton team, led by Jonatan Christie, is set to face Malaysia in the Asian Games 2026 quarterfinals at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium, Japan, on Tuesday, September 22.
The match is expected to be tightly contested, with Malaysia fielding several experienced senior players.
Doubles specialist Fajar Alfian cautioned his teammates to stay sharp against Malaysia’s veteran pairings. “Malaysia’s doubles are filled with senior players with plenty of experience. We cannot afford to lose focus,” he said in an official statement.
Indonesia enters the quarterfinals as the top seed, having received a bye in the round of 16. Malaysia advanced after defeating Mongolia.
Indonesian Badminton Association's (PBSI) Head of Athlete Development and Performance, Eng Hian, reminded the squad to maintain unity and use the preparation time wisely.
“The men’s team has had sufficient preparation time. I’ve reminded them to stay cohesive and maximize the time to study the opponent’s strengths,” he noted.
