Indonesian Athlete Eugenia Diva Claims Wushu Bronze at the Asian Games 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Three years after missing the podium at the previous Asian Games, Indonesian wushu athlete Eugenia Diva Widodo delivered a breakthrough performance by securing a bronze medal in the women’s changquan event at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Competing at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall in Nagoya on Monday, September 21, 2026, Eugenia posted a total score of 9.706 points, consisting of 5.00 points for movement quality, 2.706 points for overall performance, and 2.00 points for degree of difficulty. “I am very satisfied with today’s performance because I was able to execute what I have trained for all this time,” she said, as quoted by Antara.

Performing fourth in the lineup, Eugenia briefly moved to the top of the standings before being overtaken by Macau’s Sou Cho Man, who scored 9.710 points.

The competition remained tight until the final routines, with Hong Kong’s Sham Hyl ultimately securing gold with 9.713 points, while Sou claimed silver. The narrow margins underscored the event's intensity, with just 0.007 points separating Eugenia from the gold‑medal position.

“This competition was extremely close. The scores were separated by very small margins, and almost everyone competing here is a world champion," Eugenia said. The bronze medal marked a significant improvement from her performance at the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games, where she finished sixth.

Eugenia said reaching the podium fulfilled the target she had set before the event. “I hope this becomes the first step for me to contribute more to Indonesia,” she said.

Indonesia’s other representative, Andrea Simon, finished 12th with 9.603 points, receiving 4.90 points for movement quality, 2.703 points for overall performance, and 2.00 points for degree of difficulty.

Eugenia’s medal added to Indonesia’s growing wushu tally at the Games. A day earlier, Seraf Naro Siregar earned a bronze medal in the men’s changquan event, bringing Indonesia its first wushu medal at the Aichi–Nagoya Games.
