RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s badminton squad added valuable variety to its Asian Games 2026 preparations by holding joint practice matches with Japan’s NTT East Badminton Club, a move welcomed as a fresh boost to training intensity.
The sparring session took place at the NTT Central Training Center on Tuesday, September 15. Men’s doubles head coach Antonius Budi Ariantho praised the opportunity to face different opponents.
“Training with Japanese clubs is very positive because we gain new playing patterns beyond what we see daily in Cipayung,” he said.
Anton, a 1996 men’s doubles world champion, noted that five players were rotated in different pairings to sharpen adaptability. He emphasized that preparations were already solid, with adjustments to follow once the tournament draw is finalized.
Women’s doubles pair Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum described the joint session as energizing. Rachel said sparring with Japanese pairs created a lively atmosphere, while Febi highlighted the challenge of facing Hinata Suzuki and Nao Yamakita, whose stamina and strength from frequent World Tour appearances provide valuable lessons.
Both athletes, set for their first Asian Games, expressed determination to deliver stronger performances. “We must give our maximum effort, we don’t want to lose again,” Febi said, echoed by Rachel.
The Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026 officially open on September 19. Badminton events run September 20–24 for team competitions and September 25–29 for individual matches. (Diva Rifdah)
