Indonesian Men’s Basketball Team Loses to Hong Kong, Falls from Top of Group C

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian men’s basketball team lost 60–71 to Hong Kong at the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre‑Qualifiers at Arena Seremban, Malaysia, on Sunday, August 30, 2026. The defeat cost Indonesia the top spot in Group C after they previously secured a convincing win over Singapore in their opening match.

Indonesia opened their campaign with an emphatic 80–54 victory over Singapore, placing them temporarily at the top of the Group C standings. The loss to Hong Kong moved Indonesia down to second place with three points, while Hong Kong collected four points.

Anthony Beane led Indonesia with 14 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Yudha Saputera added 12 points, three rebounds, and four assists as Indonesia worked to withstand Hong Kong’s pressure.

Indonesia trailed 11–19 in the first quarter after Hong Kong controlled the game from start to finish. Hong Kong widened the gap in the second quarter by scoring 21 points, while Indonesia managed only 13.

The team attempted a comeback after trailing 24–40 at halftime, cutting the deficit to seven points in the third quarter. Indonesia scored 19 points in the period, while Hong Kong produced 10, bringing the score to 43–50.

However, the momentum did not carry into the fourth quarter as Hong Kong adjusted its play to contain Indonesia’s pressure. Indonesia added 17 points, while Hong Kong scored 21 to secure the win and maintain its lead until the final whistle.

The result makes Indonesia’s final group‑stage match against Malaysia an important opportunity to improve its position and keep its hopes of advancing alive.
