RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s national basketball team began its campaign in the Round 1 Pre-Qualifiers for the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 with a convincing 80–54 victory over Singapore at Arena Seremban, Malaysia, on August 28, 2026.
The result not only secured an early lead in Group C but also underscored Indonesia’s growing consistency under head coach David Singleton.
Singapore struck first through Zachary Jian-Kai Helzer, but Indonesia quickly responded with Dame Diagne’s equalizer, sparking momentum for the Garuda squad, Antara reported.
By the end of the opening quarter, Indonesia had seized control with an 18–6 advantage. The dominance continued into the second quarter, where Indonesia added 22 points while limiting Singapore to just eight, closing the half at 40–14.
After halftime, Singapore improved offensively, scoring 14 points, but Indonesia maintained composure through Yudha Saputera and teammates, extending the lead to 57–28. In the final quarter, Singapore delivered its strongest performance with 26 points, yet Indonesia matched the intensity, adding 23 to seal the 80–54 win.
Yudha led Indonesia with 16 points, one rebound, and three assists, while Rio Disi contributed 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists. The victory placed Indonesia at the top of Group C with two points, ahead of Singapore, Hong Kong, and host Malaysia.
The team now faces Hong Kong on August 30, followed by Malaysia on August 31, with a day in between for recovery. ***
