Richie Duta Richardo Advances to Round of 32 at Pontianak International Challenge

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian men’s singles player Richie Duta Richardo advanced to the round of 32 at the Polytron Pontianak International Challenge 2026 after defeating Malaysia’s Jack Jin Zhe Huong 21–9, 21–9 in just 24 minutes.

The match took place on Court 1 at GOR Terpadu, Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Ranked world No. 81, Richie delivered an impressive performance.

Richie said he was able to play at his best despite making his debut in the tournament. “Today’s match went quite well. I was able to perform without pressure even though it was my first time competing here. I’m still adapting to the court conditions, including the wind,” he said after the match.

He was grateful that the wind inside the venue was not too strong, allowing him to strike the shuttlecock with greater precision. “Fortunately, the wind was normal, so I could be more accurate with my shots,” he said.

The Polytron Pontianak International Challenge 2026 features players from 17 countries. Richie noted that while many of his opponents are not seeded, their strength should not be underestimated.

“Besides Indonesian players, there are many international competitors here. Even if they’re not seeded, I feel their abilities can still pose a challenge,” he remarked.

Looking ahead, Richie hopes to maintain his form and aim for the title. “The most important thing is to play as well and as maximally as possible. Of course, the ultimate goal is to win the championship,” he said. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
