RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s singles shuttler Denis Azzarya advanced to the main draw (round of 32) at the Polytron Pontianak International Challenge 2026. He defeated Dee Yeong Wong of Brunei Darussalam 21–3, 21–7 in the round of 64 qualifiers.

He then overcame compatriot Farel Fadhilah Ukasyah 21–11, 16–21, 21–8 in the round of 32 qualifiers. All matches were played at Ahmad Yani Integrated Sport Hall, Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Denis said he had prepared himself to adapt to the court ahead of his opening match. “In the first round I focused on adjusting my game and adapting. I had already tested the court yesterday, so I was able to adjust,” he said after the final qualifying match.

Facing Farel, however, proved more challenging. Denis noted that Farel is a left‑handed player, which required extra anticipation.

“The final qualifier against Farel wasn’t as easy as I hoped. I had to prepare alternative strategies if the opponent changed tactics. Left‑handed players are rare, so I needed to anticipate his shots and style,” he explained.

Denis admitted his loss in the second game was due to rushing his play. “At the end of the second game, I played too hastily and got drawn into my opponent’s rhythm. In the third game, I tried to be more patient and composed,” he said.

Looking ahead, Denis is focused on preparing for the main draw of the Pontianak International Challenge. He plans to study his opponents’ playing styles through match videos.

“Entering the main draw, I’ll prepare again by watching their games, analyzing strategies, and maintaining rest. The next opponents will all be strong,” he added. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
