RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Hapkido team secured 12 medals, including six gold, four silver and two bronze, at the 2026 Asian Hapkido Championships in Hong Kong, strengthening the country’s presence in the continental martial arts scene despite limited funding.
The Indonesian team competed at Sham Shui Po Sport Centre, Hong Kong, on August 14-15, 2026.
Indonesian Hapkido Association (HI) Chairman, GBPH H. Prabukusumo, praised the national team’s achievement despite the financial constraints that limited the number of athletes sent to the competition and shortened their stay in Hong Kong.
“This result is truly extraordinary because the team’s departure was limited in number for this Asian championship, and their stay in Hong Kong was also very short due to financial constraints,” Prabukusumo said in a written statement on Monday, August 17, as quoted by Antara.
“We are very grateful because regional administration, Provincial KONI, provincial associations and donors provided their support, allowing everything to run well and successfully,” he added.
The four-year continental championship was also attended by hosts Hong Kong-China, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Taiwan, Cambodia, Macau and representatives from other countries.
The competition was divided into two categories: the competition among World Hapkido Martial Arts Federation (WHMAF) member countries in Group A and the Open Tournament in Group B.
“Congratulations to the Indonesian Hapkido athletes who have achieved proud results for Indonesia. This is a great gift from Indonesian Hapkido for Indonesia’s Independence Day,” Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Chairman Marciano Norman said.
Indonesia also sent international referees Leonardo Kentjana from Bali, Juli Prastomo from East Kalimantan and Sarah Fraudina from West Java, who were invited by the Asian Hapkido Union (AHU). ***
