RRI.CO.ID Jakarta - Indonesian shuttlers women’s doubles Isyana Syahira Meida/Rinjani Kwinnara Nastine advanced to the second round of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships 2026. In the round of 64, Isyana/Rinjani defeated Scottish pair Julie Macpherson/Ciara Torrance 21-12, 21-18.
The match lasted 36 minutes on Court 4 of the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, India, on Monday, August 17, 2026. This was the first meeting between the two women’s doubles pairs.
Isyana Syahira Meida said she was happy to secure a victory in her World Championships debut. However, she admitted that she still felt tense and nervous going into the match.
“It feels great to make my World Championships debut, but there was a little tension and nervousness. We tried to enjoy the game and the atmosphere here and give our best,” she said after the match.
During the match, Isyana explained that she and her partner tried to consistently apply a fast, no-lob style of play. She said this was intended to put pressure on Julie/Ciara through play at the front of the court.
Meanwhile, according to Rinjani Kwinnara Nastine, Isyana/Rinjani immediately found their rhythm in the first game despite playing against the wind. However, after having the wind at their backs in the second game, the world No.32 women’s doubles pair struggled with the shuttlecock’s movement.
“The start of the first game felt good, and we immediately found our rhythm. Even though we were playing against the wind, we actually felt more comfortable,” Rinjani said.
“But in the second game, we were too slow to adapt and were somewhat confused by the shuttlecock’s movement, so we lost a lot of points. We tried to strengthen our mentality in the final points and push ourselves to secure the victory, trying to be more confident,” she said.
In the round of 32, Isyana/Rinjani will face their compatriots and seniors, Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum. Despite facing their more experienced teammates, Rinjani said she and Isyana want to give their best.
“In the next round, we will face our seniors, Rachel/Febi. Of course, we want to do our best and we don’t want to lose. We want to test our ability again after losing in straight games at the Indonesia Open. Hopefully, we can bounce back and win,” she concluded. (Diffa Sephiawardhani-EN)
