RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s tennis star Janice Tjen will enter the Cincinnati Open 2026 as the No.32 seed, securing a first‑round bye at the WTA 1000 tournament staged at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
The WTA confirmed Thursday, August 13, 2026, that the 23‑year‑old is among 96 players competing in the singles draw, Antara reported.
For Tjen, Cincinnati offers a chance to rebuild momentum after a disappointing run at the WTA 1000 National Bank Open 2026 in Toronto, where she fell in the opening round to seeded player Liudmila Samsonova in a tight contest.
Her doubles campaign in Toronto also ended early, as she and Polish partner Katarzyna Piter were outplayed by Australia’s Storm Hunter and American Desirae Krawczyk.
The setback came despite Tjen’s recent success with Piter, including WTA titles in Guangzhou (2025) and Hobart (2026). She also lifted the Birmingham Classic trophy in June alongside Australian Talia Gibson.
In Cincinnati, Tjen faces a formidable field featuring nine of the world’s top ten players. Aryna Sabalenka leads the seedings, followed by Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, and Coco Gauff. Other contenders include Mirra Andreeva, Linda Noskova, Iga Swiatek, Amanda Anisimova, Elina Svitolina, and Marta Kostyuk.
The tournament also welcomes past champions: Sabalenka (2024), Gauff (2023), Swiatek (2025), Madison Keys (2019), and Karolina Pliskova (2016). Swiatek returns as defending champion after defeating Jasmine Paolini in last year’s final, her 11th WTA 1000 crown.
Singles play begins August 13–14, with the second round on August 15–16, third round August 17–18, round of 16 on August 19, quarterfinals August 20–21, semifinals August 22, and the final on August 23. The Cincinnati Open serves as a key lead‑up to the US Open. ***
