RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is seeking to expand employment opportunities for its migrant workers in Slovakia, opening new pathways for skilled professionals while supporting the country's overseas employment and workforce development goals.

The Ministry for the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection (P2MI) is exploring the placement of Indonesian workers in Slovakia, particularly in the manufacturing, hospitality, and caregiving sectors.

Deputy Minister Christina Aryani said her meeting with Slovak Ambassador to Indonesia Tomas Ferko marked an initial step toward strengthening bilateral labor cooperation as Slovakia's demand for skilled workers continues to grow.

"The Ministry sees Slovakia as a market with strong potential as the country's need for skilled workers continues to increase," Deputy Minister Christina said in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

She noted that the number of Indonesian migrant workers in Slovakia has shown a positive trend, although annual placements remain below 1,000 workers.

According to her, Slovakia's labor demand is driven largely by its manufacturing sector, particularly due to the presence of global automotive companies with production facilities in the country. Companies such as Volkswagen, Kia, and Volvo require skilled workers to support their manufacturing operations.

She said Indonesian SMK Go Global vocational program equips workers with industry-specific skills, certifications, and job readiness that meet the requirements of overseas employers. "We believe this program is highly relevant to Slovakia's labor needs," she said.

Beyond manufacturing, Indonesia also sees long-term employment opportunities in Slovakia's hospitality sector. The government has also offered to supply trained caregivers to meet workforce demand in nursing homes and healthcare services.

"I also conveyed that Indonesia is ready to prepare competent caregivers to meet the needs of nursing homes. I shared our cooperation experience with Germany as a good practice that could be developed with Slovakia," she added.

She added that Ambassador Ferko praised Indonesian migrant workers for their discipline and ability to complete employment contracts as agreed. "A good reputation like this is an important asset for expanding employment opportunities," she continued.

The Slovak government plans to identify relevant ministries and stakeholders to discuss potential labor cooperation.

"The prospects for cooperation are very promising. I hope communication between us and the Slovak government will continue to strengthen so that employment opportunities for Indonesian migrant workers can expand while ensuring placements remain safe, legal, and aligned with labor market needs," she concluded. ***
