RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia must now beat Singapore in its final ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 Group A match to keep its semifinal hopes alive after suffering a 3-0 home defeat to Vietnam at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor, West Java, on Monday, August 3.

Vietnam secured the win through first-half goals from Nguyen Van Vi and Nguyen Hai Long, before Nguyen Xuan Son sealed the result after the break, Antara reported.

The defeat dropped Indonesia to third in the Group A standings with six points from three matches, while Vietnam moved to the top with seven points, ahead of Singapore on goal difference.

Vietnam struck early in the sixth minute when Nguyen Hoang Duc threaded a through ball to Nguyen Van Vi, who beat the offside trap before firing a low shot past goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata.

Indonesia responded in the 12th minute through Mitchell Baker, but his effort from an Ivar Jenner pass was comfortably saved by Vietnam goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang.

Instead of leveling the score, Indonesia conceded again in the 15th minute as Le Pham Thanh Long set up Nguyen Hai Long, who finished calmly to make it 2-0 before halftime.

Indonesia created better chances after the break. Thom Haye forced a save from Le Giang in the 58th minute, while Baker headed Eliano Reijnders' cross wide six minutes later.

Vietnam wrapped up the victory in the 71st minute when Hoang Duc delivered another incisive through ball, allowing Nguyen Xuan Son to beat the offside line and finish low beyond Nadeo.

Indonesia nearly grabbed a consolation goal late on, but Rizky Eka Pratama's header from Tim Geypens' cross was denied by Le Giang.

The 3-0 defeat leaves Indonesia needing a victory over Singapore on Aug. 7 to keep its hopes of reaching the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 semifinals alive. Failure to collect all three points would eliminate the Garuda squad in the group stage. ***
