RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's young amateur boxer from Singkawang, West Kalimantan, Winda Wahyuni, turned her first taste of international competition into a golden triumph, clinching the gold medal and being crowned as Best Female Boxer at the 2nd National Youth & Talent Boxing Championship and International Invitational 2026 in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia.

The tournament, held from July 27 to August 1, brought together rising talents from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Winda, competing in the U‑19 light flyweight (46–48 kg) category, impressed from the start. She defeated host boxer Marcia Jayet in the semifinal before facing fellow Indonesian Naqyila Paisyah from Kubu Raya in the final.

In the championship bout, Winda’s speed, aggression, and precise punches proved overwhelming. The referee stopped the fight, awarding her victory by Technical Knockout (TKO) and securing Indonesia’s gold medal.

Her commanding performance earned her the special recognition as Best Female Boxer during the closing ceremony on August 1. Secretary of the Singkawang branch of the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina), Wira, praised her achievement.

“Winda delivered an extraordinary debut on the international stage. This success shows that our youth training programs, together with Sasana Rembo Boxing Camp, can produce athletes capable of competing globally,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

The double honor has become a source of pride for Singkawang and Indonesia, underscoring the potential of regional athletes when supported with consistent training and strong commitment.

Wira expressed hopes Winda’s success will inspire more young people to pursue sports seriously, reminding them that international achievements come through discipline, hard work, and collective support.

He also urged local administration and stakeholders to continue investing in athlete development. “This victory proves that with sustained attention, Singkawang can nurture more athletes who bring honor to the region and to Indonesia on the world stage,” Wira added. ***
