Singles players Gunawan Trismuwantara and Rafalentino Ali Da Costa, along with doubles pair Rafalentino Ali Da Costa/Ethan David Zapp, all exited after losing their respective matches at the Nusa Dua Tennis Center.

"The quality of my opponent's game was better. In the second set I tried to change my tactics, but it wasn't enough. Still, my performance in this second series was better than in the previous one," Gunawan said on Thursday, July 30, as quoted by Antara.

Gunawan, who reached the main draw through qualifying, fell to Japan's eighth seed Ryuki Matsuda 4-6, 5-7 after one hour and 56 minutes. He increased the intensity of his baseline attacks in the second set, but Matsuda, ranked world No. 774, held on to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Rafalentino Ali Da Costa pushed Japan's sixth seed Keisuke Saitoh to two tiebreaks before losing 6-7(4), 6-7(4). He matched his opponent in long rallies throughout the contest and nearly forced a deciding set.

He led 6-5 in the second set after breaking Saitoh's serve and held a 40-15 advantage in the following game. Saitoh, ranked world No. 684, however, recovered to force another tiebreak and closed out the match in straight sets.

Indonesia's hopes in the men's doubles also ended after Rafalentino/Ethan David Zapp lost to third seeds Daisuke Sumizawa of Japan and Isaac Becroft of New Zealand.

Despite playing together for the first time, the Indonesian duo pushed their opponents to three sets before falling 6-7(5), 7-5, 8-10 in the super tiebreak after one hour and 35 minutes.

"We had plenty of opportunities, but small mistakes on crucial points kept us from reaching the semifinals. Even so, we're proud of what we achieved in this second series because it was our first tournament together," Rafalentino said.
