RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's national football team head coach John Herdman has urged his squad to stay alert and avoid underestimating Timor Leste when the two sides meet in their Group A clash at the ASEAN Championship (AFF Cup) 2026 in Chonburi, Thailand, on Friday evening, July 31.
Speaking at the pre‑match press conference, Herdman praised Timor Leste’s progress despite defeats to Vietnam (0‑7) and Singapore (0‑2), noting their growing confidence and tactical understanding.
“Every match is different. Timor Leste has improved throughout the tournament. Their last performance was strong, and we expect a team that is developing,” he said.
Herdman stressed that Indonesia’s focus is on securing three points with a stronger display than their 5‑1 win over Cambodia. “It’s not about scoring many goals, it’s about winning. We must grow with each match and become a better version of ourselves,” he added.
