RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian women's singles shuttler Putri Kusuma Wardani was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the China Open 2026. Putri had to accept a defeat against Japanese shuttler Tomoka Miyazaki with a final score of 21-16, 11-21, 9-21.
The match lasted 53 minutes on Court 1 at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in China on Friday evening, July 24, 2026, Jakarta Time. This marked their eighth meeting and Putri's fourth loss to Tomoka.
"I remain grateful to walk off the court without any injuries. However, I feel very dissatisfied with my performance. Even though I won the first game, the second and third games were truly disappointing," Putri said in an official statement released by PBSI following the match, as quoted on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
Putri noted that in terms of gameplay, Tomoka's style was not much different from their previous encounters. However, she pointed out that the court's wind conditions played a decisive role in her defeat.
"In terms of style, Tomoka hasn't changed much, but the wind direction was a critical factor. In the third game, she kept pressing from the start, and I couldn't break free from that pressure," she explained.
She added that she frequently struggled with shots that went too long and sub-optimal net play. "She (Tomoka) was able to play with more freedom, while I constantly struggled with shots that drifted too long or net shots that lifted too high," she remarked.
Despite the loss, Putri mentioned that she gained valuable lessons over the two consecutive tournaments past two weeks.
"I've learned a lot over these two weeks. Although I'm not fully satisfied, beating Chinese player Wang Zhi Yi earlier gave my confidence a real boost," she stated.
Putri is now focusing on keeping her mind clear and remaining in peak condition, especially when competing back-to-back. "I need to learn how to maintain my focus so I stay at my best -- not just for a single match or tournament, but across several back-to-back competitions," she concluded. (Diva Rifdah-EN)
