RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's campaign at the 2026 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships will receive a boost from Alwi Farhan's early-season experience, with the young shuttler determined to turn his first-round exit at the China Open 2026 into valuable preparation for badminton's biggest tournament of the year.

Alwi bowed out of the BWF World Tour Super 1000 event in Changzhou on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, after losing to India's Ayush Shetty in three games, 17-21, 21-5, 17-21. Rather than dwelling on the defeat, the Indonesian immediately shifted his focus to the World Championships, scheduled for August 17-23 in India.

“After this, I will immediately shift my focus to the World Championships,” Alwi said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) on Wednesday, July 22, as quoted by Antara.

The 20-year-old said the loss exposed an important area for improvement recovering physically and mentally between consecutive tournaments after giving maximum effort in the previous event.

“Today's match was another lesson. After going all out in the first tournament, I have to prepare much better for the following week. My physical condition, mentality, and mindset need to recover and reset much faster,” he said.

Alwi showed resilience by recovering from a first-game loss to dominate the second game 21-5. However, he was unable to capitalize on that momentum in the deciding game, admitting that the tactical plan prepared after the interval did not unfold as expected.

“In the third game after the interval, I actually had the advantage and already knew how I wanted to play, but it didn't go the way I expected,” he added.

He also cited the windy conditions in Changzhou as a major challenge, saying they made it difficult to execute his strategy. Alwi added that Shetty's improved net play and shot variation prevented him from finding his rhythm throughout the match.

“The court was very windy, making it quite tricky to apply my strategy. Ayush has improved a lot at the net, and his variations made me feel uncomfortable,” he concluded. ***
