RRI.CO.ID, Tokyo – Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir, praised the achievement of Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, after they claimed the BWF World Tour Super 750 Daihatsu Japan Open 2026 title in Tokyo on Sunday.

Seeded second, Fajar/Fikri secured the championship by defeating top seeds Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea in straight games, 21-19, 21-17, in the final at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

“This achievement is concrete proof of our badminton players’ hard work in bringing pride to Indonesia. The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo will continue to support the participation of Indonesia’s best athletes in international tournaments held in Japan,” Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir said in a statement issued by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo on Monday, July 20, 2026.

The victory marked a special milestone for Fajar/Fikri, as it was Indonesia’s only title at the Japan Open 2026 and the country’s first BWF World Tour Super 750 title of the 2026 season.

Meanwhile, the mixed doubles title went to China’s Feng Yang Zhe and Huang Dong Ping, who defeated Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet 21-14, 14-21, 21-15.

In the women’s singles event, India’s Pusarla V. Sindhu claimed the title after defeating Japan’s third seed Akane Yamaguchi in straight games, 21-17, 21-17. The men’s singles crown was won by France’s Christo Popov, who beat Japan’s Koki Watanabe 21-11, 21-19.

In the women’s doubles final, South Korea’s Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Yong captured the title by defeating China’s Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian in a three-game match, 14-21, 21-15, 30-29.
