RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s U-19 women’s cricket team has achieved a historic milestone by qualifying for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup U-19 2026 for the very first time.

The achievement comes just months after the senior women’s team also secured its debut in the continental tournament, signaling a new era for Indonesian cricket.

The Indonesian Cricket Association (PCI) Chairman Abhiram Singh Yadav highlighted the significance of this dual success, noting how two generations of women’s cricket have now reached Asia’s highest stage in the same year.

“Today is a proud day for Indonesian cricket. After the senior women’s team made history by qualifying for the Asia Cup, now the U-19 team has followed in their footsteps," Abhiram said in a statement on Thursday, July 16, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

"Within one year, two generations have reached the pinnacle of Asian cricket, something we have dreamed of for years,” he added.

The U-19 squad secured qualification after advancing to the semifinals of the ACC Women’s U-19 Premier Cup 2026 in Malaysia on Wednesday, July 15, defeating Bhutan convincingly by seven wickets in the quarterfinals.

The victory not only ensured their place in the Asia Cup but also underscored the depth of talent emerging from Indonesia’s cricket development programs.

Abhiram stressed that the achievement reflects the importance of building a sustainable pathway for athletes. “Success must not stop with one generation. We want to establish a system that continuously produces players," he said.

"With both the senior and U-19 teams qualifying for the Asia Cup, it shows that our development pipeline is beginning to work well. Our task now is to ensure this process continues so Indonesia can compete at the Asian level and, one day, globally,” he continued.

PCI Secretary General Albert W. Tangkudung credited the accomplishment to collective effort across Indonesia’s cricket ecosystem.

“Behind this achievement lies the hard work of many--athletes, coaches, officials, provincial administrators, clubs, and families who have supported cricket from the grassroots," he said.

"The senior team opened the path, and now the U-19 team proves Indonesia has a new generation ready to carry and even elevate that success,” he concluded.
