RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s U18 women’s basketball team has secured a place in the quarterfinals of the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Division B, advancing despite a tough loss to India in their final group match.

The junior squad finished as Group A runners‑up with five points, having defeated Oman and Thailand earlier in the group stage. Their campaign concluded with a 46‑79 defeat to India at Nimibutr Stadium, Bangkok, on Wednesday, July 15, but the result did not prevent them from progressing.

Joanne Giovanni and her teammates will now face Samoa in the quarterfinals. Samoa qualified after finishing third in Group B.

Head coach Fredy acknowledged the demanding schedule had taken a toll on his players. “Three consecutive games drained the team’s energy. We are using the rest day to recover physically and mentally,” he said.

Giovanni and Ariqa Shafa each contributed nine points against India, underscoring their importance to the team’s effort. Fredy added that the squad is preparing its best strategy for the upcoming clash.

“After a day’s rest, we focused on restoring our physical condition and mindset. We are also preparing the best strategy to face Samoa,” he said. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
