RRI.CO.ID, Tokyo - Indonesia's badminton team received strong support from the Indonesian Embassy ahead of the Japan Open 2026 on Sunday, July 12, 2026. The BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament will take place at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium from July 14 to 19.

A total of 27 athletes, coaches, and officials will represent Indonesia during the tournament. The delegation was welcomed by representatives of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo upon arriving in Japan.

Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir, said sports remain an important part of Indonesia's diplomacy. She expressed confidence that the national team would achieve strong results while upholding sportsmanship.

Nurmala said the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo is committed to supporting the national team throughout the tournament. The ambasador also encouraged Indonesians living in Japan to cheer for the athletes at the venue.

“Sports are an important part of diplomacy. I believe our athletes can achieve the best possible results at the Japan Open 2026. I am confident Team Indonesia can secure victories. But equally important as winning is demonstrating sportsmanship throughout the competition,” she said.

Indonesia men's doubles player Fajar Alfian appreciated the support from the embassy and the Indonesian community in Japan. He said the team has prepared seriously since the Indonesia Open 2026 and hopes supporters will attend the matches.

“For this year's Japan Open, we have been preparing since the Indonesia Open 2026. After partnering with Muhammad Shohibul Fikri for a year, we expect to perform even better. Our target is to improve on our previous results. We will stay focused step by step. To Indonesians in Tokyo, nearby areas, and across Japan, we truly hope for your support and prayers. If possible, please come directly to the venue because it will give us extra motivation,” he said.

Indonesia will compete across all five badminton disciplines during the tournament in Tokyo. The squad includes Jonatan Christie, Fajar Alfian, Putri Kusuma Wardani, and several other national representatives.
