RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia added two more quarterfinalists at the Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Championships 2026 after Joshua Toni Marties Lahin and Pangeran Februzio Lani recorded convincing victories on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, giving the host nation a stronger presence in one of Asia's premier youth boxing tournaments.
The Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Championships, held at the GBK Basketball Hall in Jakarta, bring together more than 400 boxers from 26 Asian countries, providing young athletes with valuable international experience against the region's strongest boxing nations.
Indonesia boxing coach Husni Ray said the pair's calm approach inside the ring played a decisive role in their success. "The two boxers who won on points performed very well. They stayed relaxed and followed the coaches' instructions," Husni said on Tuesday, July 7, as quoted by Antara.
Competing in the U19 men's lightweight (60kg) division, Joshua defeated Saudi Arabia's Nawaf Ghazwani by unanimous decision, with all five judges scoring the bout in his favor (30-27, 30-26, 30-26, 30-27, 30-27).
Meanwhile, Pangeran Februzio Lani advanced to the U19 men's bantamweight (55kg) quarterfinals after earning another unanimous 5-0 points victory over Jordan's representative, with identical scores of 30-27 from all five judges.
Joshua will next face Singapore's Dani Izacc Muhammad Faiz in the quarterfinals, while Pangeran is scheduled to meet Kazakhstan's Elyor Rustamov. Husni said the coaching staff, led by Thai head coach Kamanit Nareerakx, will prepare specific tactical plans for boxers who have advanced to the next stage.
"Of course there will be special preparations designed by our head coach from Thailand, Coach Kamanit Nareerakx, focusing on tactics for the upcoming matches," Husni said.
The championships are expected to remain highly competitive, with young boxers from traditional Asian boxing powerhouses including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Japan, and the Philippines competing across multiple weight divisions. ***
