Central Java Promotes Sports Tourism Through Borobudur Run

RRI.CO.ID, Magelang - Indonesia's Central Java Province highlighted sports tourism through the Rupiah Borobudur Playon 2026 running event in Magelang on Sunday, July 5, 2026. The marathon combined sports, tourism, and public education promoting appreciation for Indonesia's national currency.

Organized by Bank Indonesia's Central Java Representative Office, the event received full support from the Central Java Provincial Government. Around 4,000 runners participated in the 5K and 10K categories, attracting communities from various backgrounds.

Governor of Central Java Ahmad Luthfi said the event encourages healthier lifestyles while strengthening public appreciation for the Indonesian rupiah. He completed the 5K course while pushing his son, Muhammad Alif Daffa, in a wheelchair.

The governor said running events create wider economic opportunities for surrounding communities and local businesses. He emphasized their important contribution to Central Java's rapidly growing sports tourism sector.

"(This event) supports sports tourism. MSMEs can thrive, other businesses can grow, and different communities can become more active." Ahmad Luthfi said.

He encouraged regents and mayors across Central Java to develop attractive locations for future sports tourism activities. According to him, unique local destinations can generate greater economic benefits through similar sporting events.

Head of Bank Indonesia's Central Java Representative Office, M. Noor Nugroho, said the event has now reached its fourth edition. It also strengthens public education about loving, appreciating, and understanding the Indonesian rupiah through engaging community activities.

The event featured 53 MSME booths, alongside exhibitions from government agencies, financial institutions, and other organizations. Registration fees totaling around Rp600 million will be donated to 10 villages under the "Run for Sharing" campaign.
