RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is hosting the Asian Boxing U-19 & U-23 Championships 2026 in Jakarta. The championship officially opened at Gelora Bung Karno Basketball Hall on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

The tournament welcomes 48 delegations from 20 Asian countries to compete until July 16. More than 400 promising young boxers are contesting continental titles and preparing for senior international competition.

Indonesia's Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, said Indonesia was honored to host the championship. He said the event reflects friendship, solidarity, and a shared commitment to developing boxing across Asia.

He also welcomed every participating delegation to Indonesia during the opening ceremony. Erick expressed hope that athletes would enjoy the competition while strengthening regional friendship through sports.

"It's a great honor for Indonesia to welcome 48 delegates from 20 Asian countries to the Asian Boxing Men's and Women's Competition U19 and U23 Championships 2026. We are delighted to host all of you, not only as competitors, but also as a brother and sister who shares the same passion for sports and the same commitment to strength, friendship, and solidarity across Asia." Erick said.

President of Asian Boxing, Pichai Chunhavajira, underscored the organization's commitment to supporting young athletes. He said the championship provides an important pathway toward higher levels of international competition.

"At Asian Boxing, we are committed to creating opportunities to our athletes to grow, to compete, and to believe that their Olympic dream is possible." he said.

The Asian Boxing president said every competition helps athletes gain valuable experience for future challenges. He encouraged young boxers to pursue their Olympic ambitions through determination and consistent development.

Indonesia also celebrated an encouraging start on the opening day of competition. Sixteen-year-old Indonesian boxer Anggie Intania Chalik secured victory in the Women's Light Flyweight (45–48 kg) division, giving the host nation an early success.
