RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, emphasized the government's full commitment to supporting the preparation of the Indonesian contingent for the 2026 Asian Games. The government is targeting four gold medals at the largest sports event in Asia.

Erick said the government has ensured financial support so that the athletes' preparation process can run optimally. A total of Rp 61 billion has been allocated and disbursed earlier to support the needs of training centers and the preparation of the contingent.

"The Ministry of Youth and Sports is fully committed. The funds for the Asian Games have been provided in full and handed over well in advance so that preparations can be carried out optimally," Erick said in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

He affirmed that the government continues to promote sustainable sports development thru long-term national training center (pelatnas) programs. This policy aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directive that athlete development should be continuous, not just before championships.

"The preparation of athletes cannot be done in the short term. We focus on ensuring athletes perform well while also preparing future athletes," he stated.

Although targeting four gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games, Erick believes that sports competition is always dynamic. Therefore, the main focus of the government is to ensure that all athletes perform at their best during the competition.

Meanwhile, the Chef de Mission of Indonesia for the 2026 Asian Games, Todotua Pasaribu, stated that they reported the progress of the contingent's preparations to the Minister of Youth and Sports. Indonesia is planned to send athletes from 32 sports with a total of 411 athletes projected to compete. Together with the officials, the total number of the contingent is estimated to reach around 600 people.

Todotua added that his party is also opening up opportunities for collaboration with the private sector to support the preparation and success of the Indonesian contingent at the 2026 Asian Games.
