RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen bounced back from her singles disappointment by securing a major doubles upset at the 2026 Eastbourne Open, advancing to the quarterfinals alongside Hong Kong partner Eudice Chong.
The Indonesian-Hong Kong duo defeated second-seeded Italians Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani 7-6(2), 6-3 in the opening round of the WTA 250 grass-court tournament at the Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club in Eastbourne, the UK, Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The first set was closely contested, with both pairs exchanging service breaks and remaining level at 6-6, Antara reported. Tjen and Chong raised their level in the tie-break, winning seven of the final nine points to take the set.
Carrying that momentum into the second set, they earned a crucial break to move ahead 3-1 and maintained control before sealing the match 6-3.
According to WTA statistics, Tjen and Chong recorded two aces and landed 76 percent of their first serves. They also proved more effective on key points, converting four of 10 break-point opportunities.
The win sends Tjen and Chong into the quarterfinals, where they will face Isabelle Haverlag and Maia Lumsden, who advanced after defeating Katarzyna Piter and Maria Kozyreva.
