RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-18 women’s volleyball team made a strong start at the Princess Cup 2026, defeating Australia in straight sets in their opening match at Terminal 21 Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand.

The young Garuda squad secured the victory with set scores of 25-20, 26-24, and 25-19 on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The result gives Indonesia an early boost in Group A competition.

Next, Indonesia will face Hong Kong, while Australia is scheduled to take on host nation Thailand on Wednesday, June 24.

Assistant coach Bobby Ade Setiawan praised his players’ performance but acknowledged areas for improvement.

“The athletes started the match quite well, although there were moments when Indonesia lost points consecutively. That’s natural since this was the first international match for several players,” Bobby explained.

He noted that most of the squad lacks international experience, with only Tina Aira and Venisa having previously competed abroad. Despite that, Bobby emphasized the importance of the opening victory in building confidence.

“We’re grateful for the smooth start and the win, which will help boost the athletes’ confidence for the upcoming matches,” he said.

The result positions Indonesia well to compete strongly in Group A and keeps alive their hopes of advancing further in the Princess Cup 2026. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
