RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is set to welcome some of Asia's top young boxing talents when it hosts the Asian Boxing U-19 and U-23 Championships 2026 in Jakarta next month.
The tournament, sanctioned by Asian Boxing and World Boxing, will take place from July 3 to 16 at the Gelora Bung Karno Basketball Hall and is expected to attract competitors from 26 Asian countries, Antara reported.
Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir welcomed the event, highlighting its importance for athlete development and the future of Indonesian boxing.
According to a post on Minister Erick's official Instagram account, the minister expressed his support after meeting Indonesian Boxing Association (PERBATI) chairman Ray Zulham Farras.
He said the Ministry supports PERBATI's youth development programs, which align with national efforts to strengthen athlete training and improve Indonesia's competitiveness in boxing.
The championships will feature multiple divisions and categories, providing a platform for emerging boxers from across Asia to gain international experience while competing for regional titles.
The event is also expected to contribute to the growth of boxing in Indonesia and support the country's long-term athlete development strategy. ***
