RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister and Indonesia Soccer Association (PSSI) Chairperson, Erick Thohir, provided an update on the naturalization process for players Mitchell Baker and Luke Vickery. The House of Representatives (DPR) plans to hold a plenary session to formally approve the players’ applications for Indonesian citizenship.

The House plenary session will ratify and give official consent to Baker and Vickery’s citizenship requests. Minister Erick said the plenary is scheduled for Monday, 22 June 2026.

“I’m waiting on the House, because it comes from them. It may be ratified in plenary on Monday,” Minister Erick told reporters in Hambalang, Bogor, on Friday, 19 June 2026.

Following the plenary decision, the House will send a letter to President Prabowo Subianto to proceed with the swearing-in. Earlier, the naturalization of Baker and Vickery had been approved during meetings of Commission X and Commission XIII.

“After that, the House will send a letter back to the government, then the appointment and oath will take place. It may be ratified in plenary on Monday, and then to the President on Tuesday,” he said.

Minister Erick added that President Prabowo has given his ‘green light’ for the naturalizations, offering support for the advancement of Indonesian football.

“The President also said, ‘As head of state, I will support whatever we can. For football, I will do it,’” relayed the Minister.

The government continues its naturalization program to boost Indonesian football performance. “Naturalization remains part of our approach, especially given our commitment to athletes who have our bloodline,” he said.

Luke Vickery plays professionally as a winger for Macarthur FC in Australia, while Mitchell Baker is a forward for Georgetown University in the NCAA in the United States. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
