RRI.CO.ID, Subang - Indonesia has stepped onto the global stage of amateur Muaythai, fielding 23 of its finest athletes at the prestigious World Muay Championship and World School Muay in Malaysia.
The tournament, regarded as the pinnacle of amateur Muaythai, brings together champions from more than 100 countries to compete in the sport’s purest form.
“This is not just another tournament. It is the summit of amateur Muaythai, where future world champions are born,” said promoter Tine Yowargana of DonTing Athlete Management in Subang on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
Indonesia’s contingent includes 16 elite athletes and seven student competitors, all of whom passed rigorous selection to earn their place among the world’s best. “We are competing not only for ourselves but for the honor of Indonesia,” Yowargana emphasized.
West Java’s dominance is evident in the Senior Elite category, with fighters such as Edwin Pratama Putra (63.5 kg), Gino Rinaldi (57 kg), and Syakira Intan (48 kg) leading the charge.
“West Java is ready to be a powerhouse of champions, but we remain united as one Indonesian team,” added Yowargana, who also chairs the West Java Muaythai Provincial Board.
The U24, Wai Kru, and Mai Muay categories are drawing attention for showcasing Muaythai’s most authentic traditions. Athletes including Delfan Dwi, Ananda Amarensi, Fausta Latifa, and Zahra Permatasari will perform techniques rooted in Thailand’s martial heritage.
“U24 represents the future of Indonesian Muaythai. We have trained relentlessly for this moment,” Yowargana said.
Indonesia’s student athletes are also determined to prove that age is no barrier at the sport’s highest level. Saddam Muda (U18, 51 kg), Imran Abdul (U16, 51 kg), and Orion Mirin (U14, 36 kg) are competing with strong mental resolve against the world’s best young fighters.
“Though they are still students, their mentality is already on par with seniors. We are ready to fight at the top,” Yowargana noted.
West Java further strengthens its presence in the Wai Kru student category through Niskala Riksa Sunda Siviadi, known as Nay Sunda, alongside Putri Merryam (U16) and Niskala Riksa (U16). Their performances aim to honor Muaythai’s cultural essence.
“Wai Kru is the soul of Muaythai, and Nay Sunda is ready to uphold that spirit for West Java,” Yowargana said.
With 23 athletes competing across 24 events, Indonesia’s target is clear: to stand on the podium at the world’s most prestigious amateur Muaythai championship. The Indonesian Muaythai Federation (Muaythai Indonesia) remains optimistic that the team can repeat past successes and bring pride to the nation.
“Twenty-three names, one goal: to return from the highest stage with medals for Indonesia,” Yowargana concluded. (Diva Rifdah)
