RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Embassy of Ecuador in Indonesia held a watch party for the Group E match between Ecuador and Ivory Coast at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Jakarta on Monday, June 15, 2026. It was attended by diplomats, journalists, and students.

However, Ecuador began its World Cup campaign with a narrow 0-1 defeat to Ivory Coast. The winning goal for the African side, known as the Elephants, was scored by Amad Diallo in the closing stages of the match.

Ecuador's Ambassador to Indonesia, Luis Guillermo Arellano Jibaja, expressed hope that the national team would bounce back in its next match to keep alive its chances of advancing to the knockout stage.

Meanwhile, Ecuadorian Consul Pablo Bonifaz said the country's consistent appearances at the World Cup finals were the result of a long-term development process that had been underway for more than four decades.

"Ecuador's success is rooted in a process. A process that has been going on for many years. A process that began more than forty years ago," Pablo Bonifaz said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

According to him, investment in players' education, technical development, medical support, and mental strengthening has been key to enabling Ecuador to compete at the highest level of world football.

The victory over Ecuador earned Ivory Coast its first three points in Group E and moved the African nation into second place in the standings behind Germany, which has the same number of points but a superior goal difference.

In the next round of matches, Ivory Coast will face Germany, while Ecuador is scheduled to take on Curacao in the continuing Group E campaign of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
