RRI.CO.ID, Sydney - Indonesian men’s doubles badminton pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani have reached the final of the Australian Open 2026 after eliminating a Taiwanese duo in a tense semifinal.
Sabar/Reza defeated Chen Cheng Kuan and Liu Kuang Heng in three sets, 21–18, 19–21, 23–21, in a gripping 68‑minute match at the Quaycentre in Sydney, on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Both pairs applied constant pressure throughout the contest.
The first set saw the teams exchange points several times before Sabar/Reza rallied from a deficit. A four‑point run turned the tide and allowed the Indonesians to close out the opening set 21–18.
In the second set Chen and Liu raised their aggression and forced the match into a deciding set by claiming the set 21–19. The third set became even tighter and more dramatic, extending into extra points before a winner emerged.
Sabar/Reza finally secured victory 23–21 to book their place in the final. “Thank God, we won a very tough match. We are grateful to have the fortune to reach the final,” said Sabar.
He acknowledged the match had been physically and mentally draining, but said their fighting spirit proved decisive. The pair will now prioritize physical recovery and study their prospective final opponents.
“We are focusing on recovery and reviewing previous meetings. Hopefully tomorrow we can perform at our best and give everything,” he added. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
