RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s mixed doubles pair Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja expressed gratitude after advancing to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2026, overcoming Taiwan’s Liu Kuang Heng/Hsu Yin-Hui with a straight-game win, 21–16, 21–17, at Quaycentre, Sydney, on Thursday, June 11.

For Gloria, the achievement carried special meaning as the duo continues to rebuild their partnership following Rehan’s recovery from injury. “It feels great to reach the quarterfinals in just our third comeback tournament together. Step by step, being able to stay at this level is something we’re truly thankful for,” she said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), as quoted by Antara.

Rehan emphasized that his focus remains on gradual progress rather than rushing results. “Even though this is my third match after injury, I want to take it slow, step by step. The most important thing is to keep my knee and body in good condition every day, stay focused, and maintain a positive mindset,” he explained.

The pair noted that their victory reflected improved management of crucial points, drawing on lessons from earlier tournaments at the Singapore Open and Indonesia Open.

Gloria added that one of their key goals is to finish matches more decisively when already in a winning position. “We want to improve this aspect and hopefully enjoy the game more in the future,” she said.

Next, Rehan/Gloria face a formidable challenge against second seeds Guo Xin Wa/Chen Fang Hui of China in the quarterfinals. The match will test their growing rhythm and resilience as they aim to extend their comeback run.
